NUR 4330M The Nursing History Looking Glass: Mirror to the Past Reflects the Future
In this course, students will explore the history of professional nursing beginning with ancient civilization and ending with the present day. Using seven identified trends as the lens for this exploration, students will reflect on the evolution of professional nursing in the following contexts: image of the nurse, education of nurses, wartime influences, workforce dynamics, licensure requirements, practice advancements, and research within the profession. The critical role of nursing leadership in shaping the profession across these historical milestones will be highlighted throughout. The course will conclude with an opportunity to highlight how the past impacts the future, including the evolving responsibilities of nurse leaders in health care transformation.
