Admission Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older by the first day of class.
- Submission of an online application and payment of a $75 non-refundable application fee (paid online after application submission).
- Graduation from an accredited high school or General Educational Development (GED) certificate. The admission office will confirm all students’ transcripts arrive from a high school with a CEEB code, as well as the high school seal and/ or signature. If a transcript is from a high school that lacks a CEEB code or seal/signature, the admission office will investigate to confirm the school is recognized by the state department of education or home school association (see link below). If a diploma is determined invalid, a GED may be required for admission consideration.

- Achievement of a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or greater in the general education course requirements.
- Provision of official transcripts from high school, high school diploma or GED program certificate and all post-secondary schools/colleges/universities attended.
- Notice to the College of any convictions or present indictment for any felony or misdemeanor offense other than
- Traffic violations that have not been expunged.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Admission Requirements
- Completion of 17 general education credits toward the AAS degree (refer to policy ACA 2.01) with a “C” or better and a prerequisite coursework GPA of 2.5 or better prior to final acceptance into the program. For transfer credit guidelines refer to policy ADM 3.11.
- Completion of one of the following:
- A human health career program in one of the following disciplines: Radiologic Technology, Nursing, Certified Nursing Aide, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Nuclear Medicine, Physical Therapy, Phlebotomy, Occupational Therapy, Dental Assistant, or Surgical Technology*. Proof of completion must be uploaded to the application.
OR
- 900 direct patient care hours, verified by supervisor using the form found on admissions requirements website*. This completed form must be uploaded to the application.
- Attendance at an information session within a year prior to the admission application deadline.
- Candidates meeting minimum application requirements may be invited to an interview with program faculty.
Transfer of Program Credits
Credits from other Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs may be accepted. Transfers will be considered on an individual basis. A student must complete a minimum of 30% of their coursework at SCHS in order to be granted a degree.
Once a student is offered admission to the program, the following are other requirements that must be completed before a student will be allowed to attend classes:
- Attend “New Student Orientation”.
- Submit clinical compliance requirements as stated in policy ACA 1.03.
Nursing Program Admission Requirements- AASN and LPN-RN Track
- Completion of 17 general education credits toward the AAS degree (refer to policy ACA 2.01) with a “C” or better and a prerequisite coursework GPA of 2.0 or better prior to final acceptance into the program. For transfer credit guidelines refer to policy ADM 3.11.
- LPN-RN Track applicants must hold a valid unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Virginia. A copy of the license must be uploaded to the application.
- Any applicant who has previously enrolled in, or is currently enrolled in, a nursing program is required to respond to an essay explaining prior circumstances and may be asked to provide a professional letter of recommendation.
Graduates with a Bachelor’s degree from the Christopher Newport University, College of William and Mary, George Mason University, James Madison University, Longwood University, Mary Washington University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Radford University, Randolph-Macon College, University of Richmond, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Virginia State University, and Virginia Union University or an Associate’s degree from Richard Bland College, and any Virginia Community College part of the VCCS with a 2.5 GPA or higher and a B in the required pre-requisite courses will have guaranteed admission based on space availability.
Once a student is offered admission to the program, the following are other requirements that must be completed before a student will be allowed to attend classes:
- Attend “New Student Orientation” and complete the Online Readiness module.
- Submit clinical compliance requirements as stated in policy ACA 1.03.
Radiologic Technology Program Admission Requirements
- Completion of 17 general education credits toward the AAS degree (refer to policy ACA 2.01) with a “C” or better and a prerequisite coursework GPA of 2.5 or better prior to final acceptance into the program. For transfer credit guidelines refer to policy ADM 3.11.
